What are the job prospects after doing a masters in professional accounting in Australia?

Before going to job prospects, I would ask you to analyze the course thoroughly. By thoroughly, I mean check out the syllabus of every course/subject in the curriculum. I can ensure that just an MPA degree would not fetch a job for sure. In western countries, it is more about your knowledge and skills rather than your degrees.

Assuming you are not a fresh graduate and have some accounting experience under your belt, I would say it is a decent program to further enhance your skills. In Australian Industry, for maximum number of accounting jobs you need to be CPA Qualified. Look out for accounting jobs on job portals like Indeed and LinkedIn, you will get a taste of requirements of Australian Companies.

Let’s say you have 3–4 years of experience in accounting, and you want to enroll for this program it would certainly add value. One more interesting point, which you might be aware of, a high number of students take up MPA for an easy route to permanent residency.

Hope that is not your intention! I have spent more than 5 years in Sydney, but still I don’t understand why people from different domains enroll for this program. While doing my MBA, I have had met a person who had done BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) and after that he was doing MPA.

Unfortunately, I did not find any relation between the two, and on top of that he was a fresher. Both fields are exactly opposite. God knows what he is upto these days.

In MPA program, you will study diverse range of subjects/courses like law, auditing, accounts, finance etc. One particular subject that is really tough is “Corporate Accounting”. I have written the last statement because I have heard this from every MPA student I have met till today. If you decide to enroll for this program, please make sure you give enough time to this subject. This course/subject requires a lot of attention.

It would be a good idea to do this program along with CPA because that way you will be able to be job ready. For doing CPA along with MPA, you would have to work really really hard. Since I am not in accounting field, so I am not 100% sure how CPA assists in getting jobs but CPA has enormous value in Australian Industry.

Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/Accounting + CPA + MPA would certainly give you an edge over others. Along with that, if you have quality experience, there should not be much problem in getting a decent job. I am pretty sure that before shortlisting this program, you would have done your necessary research.

One more step that you can take into consideration is to get liaised with MPA students who are already in Australia get more insights. Btw, if you happen to choose MPA in any university in Australia, you will see a high number of students from China and India. Somehow, I feel this program is popular among students from both the countries for obvious reasons. You will be able to figure out the reason once you land in Australia and start the program.
