An outstanding university system

In the higher education systems of the world, Australia is a standout performer.

Last year, our universities educated 1.3 million students and produced almost 300,000 skilled graduates to meet the workforce needs of a rapidly changing economy.

International education – now worth a record $20.3 billion – in Australia’s third biggest export. Crucially, it also builds invaluable diplomatic, economic, personal and cultural ties between Australia and other nations.

Australia is also a powerhouse for research and innovation. Ground-breaking research in our universities plays a pivotal role in generating new jobs and new industries for our country as our economy changes.

Universities are also opening their doors to industry partners, seeking opportunities to collaborate and broaden the impact of their research to benefit Australia and the world.

Our annual ‘University Profiles’ publication showcases the breadth, depth and quality of Australia’s universities.

It highlights their enormous contribution to almost every aspect of our economy and society.

It’s a reminder of the many ways in which our universities drive Australia’s economic growth, extend the frontiers of human knowledge, make life-saving breakthroughs and help the nation to transition in an era of digital disruption.

It’s a great success story. We encourage you to share it widely.
