Cloud providers always on the lookout for new talent

By James Smith | 19 April 2021

If you are considering a career in cloud computing, you may have made the right choice, with the demand for qualified cloud workers to intensify over the coming years.

This was the great news being shared at our recent IT Job Pathway Cloud Computing webinar, the second such webinar of a special four-week series presented by ATMC and Employability.life. Our Cloud Computing session was a successful follow-up to the first webinar in the series, on Cybersecurity, with two more webinars to follow over the next fortnight.

“By 2025, the world’s cloud providers are going to be needing at least a few million people working with them to support and strengthen their eco-systems,” webinar guest Giten Mitra told our audience. Giten is an AWS Well Architected Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect and Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect.

“If you’re looking to start your cloud career, irrespective of the cloud provider, AWS, Google etc, all of these parties are offering free informational material to you. Visit any cloud provider’s website and you’ll find a lot of free material about how to start your career in cloud. There is a lot of material out there, but you need to select the right material for your specific career path.”

We were also very fortunate to be joined by Radhika Mittal, Director of Business and Operations at Oracle Global Business Services, who supported Giten’s important advice of the need to choose a specific career path before venturing too far down the cloud computing road.

“Getting a job in the cloud computing industry is one thing, but then you need to know how you will enhance yourself and align yourself to the direction you want your career to take you,” says Radhika.

Radhika Mittal and Giten Mitra were special guest experts for our second IT Job Pathways webinar, on cloud computing.

“How do you plan on remaining in-demand in cloud computing across the next five, ten, fifteen years? There are two aspects to this: one is having a knowledge of the concepts, which could come from the study you do, the projects you do or the incubation-type activities offered by a lot of organisations or colleges, where people can start trying out different things.

“Each of these cloud providers offers free subscription trials. They also support start-ups on different platforms, where you are hand-held and taken through the processes.

“In addition to this, there are certifications which are available in the market which will provide you with the authority to be able to say that you understand cloud concepts; that you know how this particular cloud provider works …

“If you’re aware of one technology and one cloud provider’s aspects, it can be very easy for you to expand to the other offerings.”

This webinar was hosted by Software Engineering Manager at NICE inContact Joshua Stroup and facilitated by Marketa Moses, Program manager at Employability.life/ATMC, and Anirudh Phadke, Head of Digital Content and Emerging Technologies at ATMC.

The IT Job Pathway Series continues Thursday, April 22 with a webinar focussing on Blockchain. We hope to see you all there!
